Hello again. Still trying to bring this up to date. I'll get there.

It's been a little bit crazy around here.

Let me start by showing a picture of our house before Ike hit.

front yard

back yard

The first idea that we had that the house was a total loss was a picture taken by my nephew, he was back in town pretty quick and sent us a picture on his cell phone. It was pretty bad.

but it was going to get worse

My mother-in-law and I left Fort Worth on that next Monday and headed for home.. We had reports that her house was okay, electrical power was still off, but no flooding in her house. It was dark when we got to Orange so I dropped her off with my brother-in-law and made my way to Sulfur, LA where my husband was staying since the storm. He had to stay to work. The next morning we drove into Bridge City and see for ourselves what was left. It wasn't pretty.Bridge City looked like a war zone.

The left side and back of our brick home were gone, the front was covered in mud, swamp cane, and grasses, Every window was broken out, the garage doors were gone.
Its still hard to believe that water could do so much damage.
We had to wear rubber boots and watch out for snakes , alligators, and anything else that might be hiding out there. The mud was terrible. It was about 7 inches deep , oily, smelly and just plan nasty. The cane was everywhere. Its a wonder there is any left out in the marsh. The inside of the house was a total shambles. Its was hard to tell what was what. Things were thrown all over, chairs where moved from one room to another, the water heater was shoved into the hallway. Kitchen sink was totally gone, water was spewing out of the pipes. It was insane.

It this point I think we pretty much were in shock, and didn't really know what to do. Met up with some of the neighbors that were going through the same thing. No one could believe what they were seeing.
More later, keep reading.
